Position Description:The Vice President/Credit Manager is responsible for ensuring quality underwriting, compliance and credit monitoring within the commercial loan portfolio, supporting new business development while applying credit risk policy and adhering to Industrial Bank’s risk appetite. This job manages the credit underwriting and credit administration functions for all of the Bank’s commercial lending markets. The key accountabilities of this role are credit understanding, people management, development and coaching of the credit analysts, and ensuring continued coaching in credit skills and capabilities development and career development for analysts. The Commercial Credit Manager manages a subset of credit analysts. The Credit Manager works closely with the Chief Credit Officer to ensure consistency with Industrial Bank’s risk appetite principles, including establishing the Borrower Risk Ratings for new and existing credit relationships.This role will manage a team of Credit Analysts responsible for managing end-to-end underwriting & credit analysis responsibilities for the commercial loan portfolio.


Essential Duties & Job Requirements:

Must have the knowledge and experience of working in a Commercial Credit Department of a Bank


  • Performs preliminary research on potential customers to determine alignment with Industrial Bank’s products/structure while also assisting in assessments of credit needs and alignment with the Bank’s Credit Risk Appetite
  • Attends site visits as needed or as requested
  • Supervises Credit Analysts in creation of preliminary spreads, cashflow, and discussion memorandums and assists on the decision to move forward with potential clients; Has oversight of Credit Action Analysis, input Borrower Risk Rating, and provides Loan Policy related feedback for terms, conditions and covenants
  • Ensures that all staff are knowledgeable of and operate within the applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines/policies & procedures (including but not limited to: AML, Privacy, Firewalls, Systems & Information Security, etc.) and ensure that all staff complete required compliance attestations/training within required timelines
  • Assesses all credit applications, ensuring they provide a high quality of risk assessment, credit structure analysis, due diligence, and credit presentation
  • Ensures appropriate balance between customer risk and pricing
  • Makes approval recommendations, including recommendations to Officers Loan Committee and Directors Loan Committee
  • Ensures the overall portfolio is comprehensively monitored and controlled, adhering to and administered within approved guidelines and in line with established operating policies and procedures
  • Interprets and applies Industrial Bank’s risk management strategy (both credit and operational)
  • Implements and operates systems to identify and mitigate operational risk issues
  • Understands changing market conditions and remain knowledgeable of relevant industry issues
  • Responsible for managing aspects of the customer relationship including, but not limited to, reviewing reports and delinquencies, sign off of covenant compliance forms and assists in developing strategy if failures occur, completing monthly monitoring
  • May lead a team of Analysts in monitoring loan covenants, loan delinquencies, and the annual review and renewal of existing credit relationships
  • Works with the Special Assets Manager to proactively identify early warning signs of any problem loans and/or troubled debt and provides underwriting support for loan restructuring strategies and alternatives;
  • Monitors the credit performance of customers and identify any issues that requires risk mitigation
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills;;
  • As directed by the Chief Credit Officer, the Credit Manager may be responsible for the preparation of reports for the Senior Loan Committee and Board reporting
  • Design forms, procedures, processes, and reports to enhance the Credit Administration Management function, especially as it relates to database reporting.
  • Maintain and update the Tickler reporting module with the Bank’s Commercial Underwriting Platform in a timely manner
  • Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops Credit Analyst within the department; manages schedules and workflow.
  • Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively works to promote and recognize performance.


Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field or equivalent; MBA preferred.
  • Five to ten years related experience or equivalent
  • Knowledge of federal bank regulations.
  • Formal Commercial Credit Training
